Songs within me

March 8, 2010 by Bilbo   Comments (5)

I hear songs in the wind,
As if all of the forest was reaching out
To talk to me.
Pausing, I stop awhile and listen.
The song is good.

Beneath my feet soft pine needles,
I paw the ground for more
So sweet the smell.
This, is where I sing.
And the song is good.

Lie back now on soft earth,
Listen with eyes closed to the land
Seeping into me.
Sound, smell and touch.
This is the song within me.

Spring comes again

March 8, 2010 by Bilbo   Comments (3)

Spring comes again,
And all the promise that renewal brings
Lies before me.
But I have seen so many seasons,
And I am old.

I have no regret,
I have known the love that friendship brings
And I am thankful.
But the years have had their toll,
And I am old.

If summer warms me,
And I can drink some fine wine once more
I am content.
And if you hold me tight, tonight,
I may not feel so old.

valentine day poem by JB

February 12, 2010 by Bilbo   Comments (2)

The time has come around once more
In winter’s middle part
To say to all your friends out there
I love you, from the heart

I tell you all, that Valentine
On romance was quite mute
And no-one’s sure he cared at all
Or even gave a hoot

But saying this takes not away
From what I want to say
And that is ‘Love to all bear friends’
On this most special day

So find someone to give a hug
Be sure you do not miss
This chance to give someone you love
A great big sloppy kiss

heh heh

Hi Everyone,

If anyone has ideas or wants to submit articles (yes some of you have already done so), please email me at snuffy@bearmani.com
Thanks for all your help

Worc flew out yesterday to check on JB. He is with Great Mother bear. They are preparing for Halloween. A bunch of the bears are going to dress up as hums to go trick or treating.

My life's a journey, Bilbo dude,
And I must wander free,
To take the woodland paths untrod,
Is now the goal for me.

But worry not my beary friends,
My travels they will bring,
Much news about our woodland friends,
I'll share with you in Spring.

JB has returned to the forest

October 19, 2009 by Bilbo   Comments (2)

It has been a long time since I blogged. Busy and sad days for us here. JB has decided after his last trek that home is really with Great Mother Bear in the forest. He has therefore packed his things today and headed off to the woods. We are all feeling a little sad here as we know we will miss him. We wish him well.

JB's heading home

May 4, 2009 by Bilbo   Comments (8)

Worc went out today and found JB. He brought home this poem, and JB is now homeward bound.

The Journey Home

When winter’s spent and spring is nigh,
And bears begin to stir,
They eat their fill of honey fine,
And comb out matted fur.
They step outside and sniff the air,
And scratch upon a tree,
And gazing upward to the sun,
Are thankful to be free.

As young bears know, spring is a time,
When thoughts are full and long,
When what has been and what’s to come,
Resounds in each bird’s song.
How came I here? What is my plan?
Does living have a reason?
Such thinking is a common thing,
In this the wakening season.

And so it was this very spring,
These thoughts came strong to me,
And speaking inward to myself,
I said ‘Its time JB.
Go out into the forest deep,
And ask each creature there,
Where is the place that meaning is?
And where is great sky bear?’

So leaving friends I soon set out,
I knew the path was hard,
But finding Doris, great sky bear,
I had to leave my yard.
I took along some simple things,
To help me pass the time,
The servant’s cell-phone, visa card,
A backpack full with wine.

My plan was simple from the start,
I’d search out Mother bear,
For she is wise and knows all things,
She’d show me sky bear’s lair.
And so I trekked for several days,
Into the woods so deep,
Til finding Mother’s cozy cave,
I found her still asleep.

‘Wake up’ I cried the spring is here,
The weather outside’s fine,
I’ve come to visit for a while,
I even brought some wine.
As Mother bear began to stir,
She looked across at me,
‘Good heavens, look whose come to stay,
It’s my old friend JB.’

We sat and talked the day away,
And shared the deep red wine,
I learned of many things from her,
Things long before my time.
‘But on the matter of the bear,
You say lives in the sky,
I have no wisdom I can give,’
She offered with a sigh.

‘Each bear must make this journey,
And it must be alone,
For every bear is different,
Now, can I use your phone?’
She ordered in some pizza,
And then as we did talk,
Delivery was handled by,
My very good friend Worc.

We slept that night inside her cave,
And waking the next day,
She made me breakfast just before,
I went upon my way.
‘Just one thing more before you go,’
She said as we did part,
‘Sometimes the answers that we seek,
Are right inside our heart.’

I thought on this as I did walk,
The sun hot on my back,
And life about me bursting forth,
All up and down the track.
A bird flew by and sang his song,
A squirrel I did see,
And every living thing I met,
Said, ‘Happy day JB.’

At noon I sat and sipped some wine,
And thought about my life,
My friends back home, and all those here,
All free from any strife.
‘What can I ask that’s more than this?
Does any bear need more?
The right to walk beneath the sun,
A friend to hold his paw.’

I looked along the winding path,
And knew the words were true,
Great Mother Bear had said to me,
The answer is in you.
I gave a little heh heh heh,
Then sat and wrote this poem,
No need to search out anything,
I think I’m heading home.

JB goes missing

May 2, 2009 by Bilbo   Comments (4)

I thought I had better update you all on JB. We are quite worried here as Worc has been unable to locate him for almost a week. At his last campsite Worc found an empty box of KFC, the servants cell phone that JB had been using to 'Twitter' and a mini bottle of single malt whiskey, empty, of course.
Sullivan has been into the woods looking for clues, but nothing yet. The Don has suggested a search party if we don't hear something soon.
Sullivan is going to head out next week to find Great Mother Bear, as JB had intended to drop in on her on his way to find Doris, and the meaning of life.
